Wellness Exams and Vaccinations

Vaccination helps to protect your pet from many deadly or seriously debilitating diseases. But, we must start vaccinating your puppy or kitten at an early age to provide the most benefit. For this reason and in an effort to keep costs affordable to you, we offer Puppy and Kitten Wellness Packages for animals 8-9 weeks old or less at their initial exam. These packages cover the complete basic vaccination series, an initial fecal examination, first doses of heartworm and/or flea/tick prevention, a personalized tag, implantation of and lifetime registration for a microchip, FIV/FeLV testing in cats, and your pet’s spay or neuter surgery.

As they say, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!” Because our companion animals age much faster than people do, this statement is especially true. Annual to semi-annual wellness examinations allow the doctors at Southside Animal Hospital to detect disease at an early stage when it is potentially more easily treated or the disease progression can be slowed. Early detection and intervention is also usually much less costly long-term.

Vaccinations are also given at your pet’s annual wellness exam as needed based on assessment of your pet’s lifestyle and risk for acquiring various diseases. We offer vaccination against rattlesnake envenomation in dogs as well. Lastly, our recommendations for yearly heartworm testing and fecal examinations for internal parasites are based on guidelines from the American Heartworm Society and the Companion Animal Parasite Council.
